Position Description Overview

At First Data, we make buying and selling easier. It is that simple. Many of you do business with First Data every day, although you may not realize it. Whether you're writing a check at the gas station, using your ATM/debit card to pay for groceries, buying a book online, getting cash out of an ATM, paying for dinner with your credit card or using a gift card to purchase something special, chances are your transaction is moved quickly and securely by First Data. Across the total payments spectrum, were the company that provides innovative payment solutions for merchants and financial institutions around the world.

Job Responsibilities

    • Collecting via telephone in a call center environment manually or utilizing an automatic telephone dialing system, to contact merchants in regards to their outstanding accounts.
    • Using skip tracing skills for more difficult debt recovery.
    • Collecting accounts in compliance with all applicable regulations and internal performance standards in order to meet or exceed personal and/or departmental objectives.
    • Establishing rapport with merchant in order to overcome objections and negotiate payment of the debt.
    • Documenting all discussions and actions in a tracking system or database.
    • Confirming payment arrangements and finalizing call.
    • Working on special projects as assigned.

Scope of Job

Must maintain a performance goal as outlined at the beginning of the measurement period. May be held to additional performance measures.


Using established procedures and working under immediate supervision, performs assigns tasks. Able to accept payment arrangements. May need supervisor approval to accept second payments.


Job Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Minimum of 1 year customer service experience, preferably in a call center environment
    • Minimum of two years collection experience
    • Skip tracing experience preferred
    • Strong verbal communication skills must be demonstrated along with a professional telephone manner in order to communicate effectively with business owners
    • Knowledge of applicable regulations preferred
    • Familiar with computers
    • Command of required language(s)
    • Must have an excellent work history with a strong record of job stability
