Position Description Overview

We are looking for an ambitious and talented Storage Engineer to join our technology team. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with a wide range of enterprise storage technologies. The role will be primarily focused on hands on storage engineering that includes specification gathering, design, configuration, administration, implementation, and support of a variety of storage solutions, especially a large and rapidly growing complex SAN environment. You will be a strong liaison with other Engineers as well as with end user communities. Experience with Cloud technologies and object storage and coverage technology is required.


Job Responsibilities

  • Work with senior storage engineers in the team and help them with design, improve, and deploy technical and application solutions to meet business requirements that are cost effective and sustainable. 
  • Deliver conceptual, logical, and physical solution specifications. 
  • Translate business requirements to determine appropriate storage/ system solutions. 
  • Design, deliver and maintain practical, flexible underlying storage solutions globally.  
  • Design, deliver and maintain replacement solutions for a variety of antiquated storage solutions, and migrate safely to these new solutions. 
  • Knowledge of EMC Networker / Avamar is a plus. 
  • Design, deliver and maintain Business Continuity capabilities for storage systems where applicable. 
  • Work closely with other subject matter experts, including other storage professionals as well as Unix, Windows, Architecture, BCP, Backup, and Database specialists. 
  • Produce documentation on installed systems and their configurations.  
  • Perform knowledge transfer by automation of routine tasks to operations team.
  • Actively participate in significant incidents, ensuring that root-cause analysis is identified and knowledge gained is applied for process improvement. 
  • Storage solutions design and sustainability by developing short-term and long-term roadmaps. 
  • Measure and monitor storage availability, response time, backup window and other metrics as required. 
  • Participate in the evaluation of new technologies and releases for Storage.


Scope of Job

This position is critical to the existing state of our production infrastructure, and for our go forward vision of Software Defined Storage, Automation and Cloud initiatives. These elements are critical to the evolution of First Data's next generation applications. In addition, this position provides hands on troubleshooting with the storage operations and iCTO teams while the vendors are getting engaged; this role was heavily focused on our SAN/NAS Platform globally. 


He/She would also provide mentoring to the junior team members. 

Engineering team provides global solutions and are engaged in production support globally. 

The responsibilities include working with Data Center team's setup and configurations of storage devices globally; maintaining the FD GIO Storage lab which includes testing new releases of microcode code and ensuring end to end compatibility with compute software stack, configuration testing of automation scripts across tiers of storage as well as all POC testing of new technology.


 

Job Requirements

  •  At least 5-10 years of professional experience 
  •  At least 5 years as a storage professional in a financial firm 
  •  Candidates must have a minimum of Bachelors or work experience. 
  •  Knowledge of Unix and Windows operating systems 
  •  Experience in storage capacity planning o Experience in storage monitoring is a must. 
  •  Experience and skill in performance tuning of storage environments 
  •  Experience with Networker backup systems a plus 
  •  Brocade experience is a requirement 
  •  Experience with NetApp technologies 
  •  Experience with DELL/EMC /IBM technologies o Experience with VPLEX, XtremIO, Unity, IBM Flash
  •  Experience with AWS and other cloud storage technologies is a plus 
  •  Experience with Software Defined Storage technologies is a must 
  •  Detail oriented; Demonstrates thoroughness and strong ownership of work 
  •  Good team player with a strong willingness to participate and help others 
  •  Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment; Good sense of urgency 
  •  Strong communication skills
