Position Description Overview

Enterprise Software Architect is responsible for hands-on architecture leadership, guidance and mentoring to the Global Infrastructure Software Automation's development teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, robust, and scalable infrastructure software solutions. This role will collaborate directly with Team Leads and Software Engineers to research, design and prototype software solutions, ensuring that they align with First Data guidelines and industry best practices. In addition, the Software Architect will communicate and mentor teams on software development best practices, patterns and architecture guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the architectural design and integrity of software features
  • Actively participate in the development process, as needed
  • Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies and software components
  • Implement POCs and pair with technical leads on implementations
  • Ensure all software development is managed under version control and release management
  • Experienced with code branching and the establishment of multiple environments spanning development, test, user acceptance test, production, and production fix
  • Maintain morale, both within the architecture group, and externally as well. The latter is done by providing a sound design, when needed, and providing good presentations and materials to let everyone know the organization is on the right track
  • Provide technical leadership to the development team of agile software developers to create, maintain, and enhance diverse software systems
  • Participate in the development of the strategic direction and vision for software solutions. Develop the technologies and architectures to achieve the vision within the business constraints
  • Conduct architectural reviews of existing software and recommends adjustments
  • Communicate architecture guidelines, principles and vision to development teams
  • Drive adoption of core technologies, architectural guidelines and standards
  • Drive software development best practices from technology selection and workflow to coding standards
  • Accelerate adoption of standards and new technologies
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers


Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 5+ years of prior experience as a Software Architect
  • Knowledge of server and network capabilities and configurations
  • Experience with DevOps and software development tools such as JIRA, BitBucket, GIT, Confluence and Visual Studio, Eclipse, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of data structures, databases, algorithms and asynchronous architectures
  • Proficient in C#/.NET and/or Java/J2EE
  • Experience in at least one dynamic language (Python, Angular, etc.)
  • Expertise in Web Development
  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL and relational databases
  • Experience of middleware and SOA Technologies, specifically experience in developing RESTful and/or SOAP services and micro-services.
  • .NET or Java Certified is a plus
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner is a plus
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Certified Scrum Master is a plus
  • B.S. in Computer Science or related discipline; Master's degree desirable
  • Ability to dive in, understand the business, and the needs of internal and external customers

  • In depth experience with iterative SDLC processes such as Agile SCRUM, Kanban, etc.
  • Solid understanding of security/access control, scalability, high availability, and concurrency patterns
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure and related technologies (hardware, networking, virtualization, Cloud, AWS, SaltStack, Docker, etc.)
  • Experience with Release Management and Configuration Management
