Position Description Overview

The Hardware Support Administrator role is responsible for the installation, support and troubleshooting of network, SAN, server and mainframe hardware in an enterprise datacenter. Additionally, this role is the primary installer and tester of fiber optic and Cat-6e cabling throughout a complex multi-platform environment.


Job Responsibilities

  • Tests, configures, installs and maintains computer hardware, disk drives and disk drive enclosures. 
  • Participates in the development of test strategies, devices and systems. 
  • Provides functional and empirical analysis related to the design, development and implementation of hardware. 
  • Performs additional job duties as required.
  • Advanced troubleshooting abilities. Demonstrated capacity to apply troubleshooting logic and methods to both known and newly learned hardware technologies. 
  • Ability to learn and work with new hardware or technological concepts.  
  • Ability to focus on numerous details and a strong desire to produce high quality results. 
  • Functional layer 1 knowledge of server and SAN hardware. 
  • Functional layer 1 knowledge of networking hardware (primarily Cisco Nexus).
  • Functional knowledge of IPV4 TCPIP. 
  • General knowledge of change management processes and ticketing systems.


Scope of Job

Provides assistance for the installation and maintenance of basic hardware systems. Ability to communicate effectively within a team.



Works independently on support tasks but still requires close supervision when working with clients.


Job Requirements

  • 1+ yrs of related IT experience. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience. 
  • Basic knowledge of the hardware, operating systems and LAN/WAN network technology used in the organization. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products to generate documents and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with team members, extra-departmental employees and management.  
  • Self-motivated with good time management skills.  
  • Ability to drive results among multiple priorities and use situational awareness to prioritize workload. 
  • Mainframe knowledge is a plus. 
  • Project Management skills is a plus.
