In this position, you will work alongside sales, product development engineering, and the research and development group, quality, and operations and will have the responsibility of being the voice of the customer. You will be the champion for researching and identifying new product opportunities and improvements to existing product lines to drive market growth.

In this position, you will be doing the heavy lifting and must know how to “get it done” through/with the customer, engineering, quality, and operations.

Qualified candidates will possess the following: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, management, or engineering (MBA preferred)
  • A minimum of 2-5 years’ experience as a Product Manager in an industrial context with proven product management and marketing product development experience
  • Demonstrated success defining, developing, and launching new products
  • Technical background and aptitude with experience in industrial products
  • Excellent teamwork skills; proven ability to lead cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Examples and at least one sample of an effective market or product requirements document delivered in the past
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time

The PM will work with cross-functional teams to introduce new and enhanced products that support our top-line growth and profit goals.  New products will come from submitted ideas, as well as the product management team’s industry experience, market research, and sales/customers/prospects contacts.  The PM will handle new product projects from conception to launch plan and will work with engineering and the product management team to define product release requirements.

The PM will possess marketing skills,  industrial design mindset, and technical savvy.  The key is to have a big-picture vision and the drive to make the vision a reality.  The PM will spend time in the market to understand its problems and define product needs for the broader market.  New products will be designed to address customer problems, fulfill customers’ unmet needs, and provide desired job outcomes, thereby adding value and generating a profit.  The PM will work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, product positioning, key benefits, and target customers.

The PM will serve as a primary champion for new products and owns the tactical management and activities associated with new product launches. The responsibilities listed below will vary depending on workload and product launch cycles.

The PM will:

·        Increase profit generated from product lines by adding revenue streams from new products.  Profit will come from successful new/enhanced product launches, and strategic pricing.

·        Understand the applicable markets for products so that product design, performance characteristics, and cost/price are appropriate for target customers.

·        Fully understand our competitors’ products including those considered to be acceptable substitutes. The PM will initiate side-by-side competitive comparisons as required.

·        Work closely with marketing communications on product catalog, flyer, and brochure updates and creation.

·        Work with the marketing and Market Development Managers in sales literature, advertising, direct mail, trade shows, and other types of marketing promotions.

·        Interact with the other Global Centers of Excellence on product management activities

·        Support pursuit of customer accounts or projects that are of special importance as determined by the management team.

·        Provide technical sales assistance by working closely with inside sales, customers, and coordinating with engineering and other COE departments.

·        Thoroughly understand key markets and applications for products. Identify and track trends and threats related to products.

·        Own product training materials for products and conduct product training for inside sales and field sales personnel when needed.

·        Manage list pricing and work with engineering to support the standardization of material descriptions in SAP, quoting tools, and online ordering tools.

·        Support investigation and analysis of recurring product failures and provide assistance with CARs.

The Product Manager will lead the effort to:

·        Gather and prioritize information about our customers’ unmet product needs within selected market segments leading to profitable new and enhanced products. This will be done through market research and customer interview techniques, such as those described in the Pragmatic Marketing program.

·        Gather information about our competitors’ offerings so we can correctly position our products in the market.

·        Deliver Marketing Requirements and Product Requirements Documents that frame the “customer problem” terms of what the new product initiative or product improvements should accomplish.  This will guide PDG as they work to propose solutions that address the identified customer problems and unmet needs.  These documents will consider industrial design, packaging, and labeling aspects that will enhance our sales results and build our brand.

·        Create the product playbook that defines the product vision, product strategy, and the roadmap of planned product additions, upgrades, and planned product obsolescence.

·        Develop the core positioning and messaging for the final product to guide promotion, marketing, and direct selling efforts to include literature development, sales guides, product samples, online information, and tools, etc.

·        Work with our production staff and/or third-party suppliers (including other CoEs) as required to manage and implement product launch according to the established schedule. Manage product implementation projects, creating needed schedules and timelines, following up on progress, resolving roadblocks, etc.

·        Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples as required

·        Work closely with all parts of the company to ensure that product revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. This will include addressing customer complaints with the product in a timely manner.

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Marketing; or equivalent business experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Understanding of Time Value of Money concepts and ability to determine Net Present Value (NPV) using MS Excel a plus.


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
