JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Title: Program Specialist

Reports to – Title of Supervisor: Unit Director

Pay Status: Part time, hourly

 

Position Summary

 

Under the supervision of the Youth Development Professional, The Program Specialist establishes a program setting that ensures the physical safety of members and enhances their personal growth, while delivering programs in the 1-5 core service area for youth between the ages of 6 and 18 years.

 

Qualifications

 

Education:

  • Preferably current college student

 

Knowledge of principles and practices related to:

 

PREPARING YOUTH FOR SUCCESS

  • Establish Programs, Activities and Services that Prepare Youth for Success
  • Create a Club Environment that Facilitates the Achievement of Youth

           Development Outcomes

 

SAFE POSITIVE CLIMATE

  • There is an awareness of what to do and readiness to act in the case of an emergency.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is current; appropriate equipment/kits/materials are maintained and available.
  • Equipment is in good condition, with safety precautions posted (where needed).  Members are instructed in the proper and safe use of equipment.
  • Members understand and follow standards of conduct in the program area.
  • Staff is present in their program area to continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members.
  • The program area is neat and clean.
  • A genuine caring and respect is exhibited between staff and members.  Members are greeted by their first name.  There is no name calling, labeling or stigmatizing.
  • Recognition of members is evidenced by names, photos, notes on walls, and bulletin boards in the program area.

 

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

  • Members receive instructions in Core Program Area skills.
  • There is awareness and use of system to recognize the participation and achievements of Club members.
  • A high level of enthusiasm, energy and commitment is demonstrated in personal contact with members and visitors.
  • Members are continually encouraged to participate in Core Program Area activities, praised for their good efforts, and provided with constructive feedback on their efforts and progress.
  • Members are continually encouraged to become involved in other program areas.
  • Staff participates appropriately with youth in Core Program Area activities, always demonstrating leadership to assure the conduct, safety, and development of members.
  • A variety of activities and methods are employed in the Core Program Area.

 

GUIDANCE

  • Positive and respectful relationships exist between staff and members.
  • A fair and reasonable set of rules, stated in positive terms, are posted in the core Program Area.
  • Members are always held accountable for their behavior and encouraged to achieve their best results.
  • Behavior incidents and achievements are recorded and shared appropriately with staff and parents.
  • Staff continually strives to develop positive values and ethical behavior in members through teaching, discussion and modeling.

    There are efforts to promote these same values and conduct outside the Club.

     

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY

  • Opening and closing program area as designated by the Youth Development Professional.
  • Changing monthly decoration by the 5th of every month as directed by the Youth Development Professional.
  • Assist Youth Development Professional with member recruitment outside of the Club.
  • Under the direction of the Youth Development Professional, assist with in Club marketing through activities such as posting daily schedules and flyers, announcements, personally visiting with members, and various other techniques deemed necessary.
  • Responsible for recording attendance and participation statistics in program area to be turned in to the Youth Development Professional at the end of every program day.
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • All other duties as assigned by the Youth Development Professional.

Physical and mental requirements:

 - Maintain a high energy level.

 - Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

 - Speak clearly and listen attentively.

 

Other requirements:

 - CPR and first aid certifications.

 - Maintain a valid driver’s license

 - Meet the eligibility requirements for operating Club vehicle(s).

 - Successfully completes annual physical and drug screening.
