Job Description

This employee assists the pharmacist in the ordering, distribution and preparation of medications and supplies.   Understands and commits to the agency mission.  Performs all duties and responsibilities listed herein, as well as other duties that may be assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

FINANCIAL:  

  • Receives and stores supplies and medication.  Stores, safeguards and rotates stock.  Conducts periodic inventories and removes outdated inventory.

QUALITY:

  • Inspects incoming supplies and medication.
  • Coordinates return and proper disposition of patient supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with quality assurance activities.
  • Complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations as appropriate for the position.  Complies with all policies and procedures of the agency, including those specified in the employee handbook.

SERVICE:

  • Assists the pharmacist in IV admixture of medications.
  • Arranges for supply, medication and equipment delivery. 
  • Assists the pharmacist with clerical and documentation functions.
  • Answers phones and provides other support services.

EMPLOYEE:

EXPERIENCE:  Six months Pharmacy Tech experience preferred, IV experience strongly preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:  Proficient at basic use of a computer/laptop, such as opening and closing Windows applications. Understands computer concepts such as Windows, icons, passwords and mouse buttons.  Experienced and comfortable with one or more applications such as MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint or E-Mail.   Familiarity with network files and folder concepts.  Comprehends I/S terminology associated with security risks such as viruses, worms, spam and pop-ups.  Learns department specific applications as needed, develops and maintains skill in the use of appropriate equipment and software.

COMMUNICATION:  Effective professional communication skills, both written and oral.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret appropriate periodicals, instructions, regulations and correspondence pertaining to area of expertise.  Ability to interpret oral instructions and to participate in discussions regarding area of expertise. 

REASONING SKILLS:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of standards effectively.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.  Ability to spot and correct errors, and to know when additional assistance or training is required.  Notifies manager in a timely manner when assistance with a decision is needed or unable to meet agreed upon deadlines.

DRIVING/INSURANCE:  Must maintain current driver’s license and auto insurance coverage within the limits specified by VNA’s liability insurance carrier and stated in the VNA employee handbook.  Must provide proof of license and insurance upon request and have access to reliable transportation.   Must maintain an acceptable driving record as set forth in VNA’s policies and procedures . 

PHYSICAL REQTS:  Requires full range of body motion, including unrestricted lifting, pushing and pulling capability.  Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.   Will frequently sit, stand, walk, crouch, climb stairs, lift and carry bulky/heavy items (up to 50 pounds) and use strength and dexterity to perform duties within the office and in outside locations. 

ENVIRONMENT:  Will work within the pharmacy setting, including working with chemicals.  Infrequent exposure to extreme conditions.  (Temperature, noise, fumes, dust etc)

LICENSURE:  Active license to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Nebraska.  Certified in Basic Life Support.

COMPETENCY:  Demonstrates competencies as defined by the agency for this position.
