Job Summary/Objective

Essential Functions

  • Assist as a team member on routine and fractural critical bridge inspections.
  • Assist with instrumentation on bridges that require load testing.
  • Develops broad knowledge and skills in a specific practice area.  
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features. 
  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments. 
  • Works on small projects or portions of larger projects.  
  • Understands and provides input to quality program.   
  • Performs moderate design tasks.  
  • Prepares portions of project documents, edits specifications.  
  • Performs research and investigations.
  • Receives instruction on specific objectives.  
  • Receives direction on unconventional and/or complex problems, and possible solutions.  
  • Receives a thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment.
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.  
  • Assists with client, customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.
  • Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues.  
  • Strong technical/qualitative writing ability.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of civil engineering to construction projects.
  • High level of energy; great at problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Attend CSM Assignments.
  • Member of and actively participates in professional practice organization, member of local program or committee.
  • Involved in outreach activities with community service organizations.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with entry-level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff.  Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements.

 

Work Environment

  • Mix of office environment and outdoor

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, walking, standing, bending, ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

 

Travel Required

  • The travel expectation for this role will be up to 25%.

Required Education and Experience

Requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. 
  • Engineer in Training, Engineering Intern (within 3 months of date of hire)
  • 0-3 years of experience required

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Preferences that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Master’s degree not required, but preferred. 
  • Experience or knowledge of DOT Standard Plans and Specifications 
  • Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130055)
