Job Summary/Objective

The ideal candidate is a driven individual interested in building an exciting career designing award-winning public and private infrastructure projects in the Des Moines, Iowa area.  We are looking for a project engineer with experience in civil engineering design and analysis, working with clients, engineers/architects, and design support staff.   Work on exciting transportation projects like roundabouts, diverging diamond interchanges, and displaced left turn intersections, while collaborating and learning with a great team of professionals.   Expect to work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects that will shape the future of Des Moines and the surrounding areas.    

 

Work on a wide-variety of projects with multiple clients. Don’t get pigeon-holed doing the same thing day and day out at a larger firm.

 

Essential Functions

  • May serve as Project Manager or Project Engineer on assigned projects. 
  • Works on a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex features.  
  • Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.  
  • Prepares proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs. 
  • Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
  • Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments. 
  • Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills.   

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises all staff necessary to complete assignments.   

 

Work Environment

  • Office work.  Some field visits will be expected.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, walking, standing, bending, ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

 

Travel Required

  • No travel expectation except meetings within the Des Moines metro area.

Required Education and Experience

Requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program. 
  • 8 years of experience required
  • Professional Engineering License 

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues.  
  • High level of energy; great at problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong technical/qualitative writing ability.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
