Job Summary/Objective

Assist Survey Manager in development of proposals and coordinate with engineering department on joint projects; deliver profitable projects. Understand tolerances and accuracy as they relate to project needs; interpretation of construction plans and record maps; understanding of field codes and stringing (field to office data collection); and boundary procedures and analysis. Accept responsibility for seeking and acting on feedback needed; resolve project-related personnel issues.  Adhere to established company policies, follow all survey service line procedures, and assure that the crew follows standard procedures. Organizes and maintains field survey crew efficiently in completing specific jobs.

  • Perform field survey activities in accordance with standards set by state statutes and the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping. 
  • Assure crew adheres to procedures in the safety manual and uses all personal safety equipment provided. 
  • Plan daily activities considering possible multiple projects to meet productivity goals set by Project Managers.
  • Supervise crew-level vehicle and equipment inventory, loading and maintenance.  
  • Supervise the crew’s use of equipment, preparation of sketches and notes, and electronic data collection.
  • Communicate with the entire crew and office staff about all aspects of the project. 
  • Work without direct day-to-day supervision and make technical and supervisory decisions for projects assigned within specified limits of authority. 
  • Supervise daily Data Collector downloading.  
  • Prepare daily time sheets, data logs, expense reports and field change orders. 
  • Provide input to Project Manager (Field Supervisor) and Group Leader for the formal performance evaluation of crew members. 
  • Participate in Survey Department and/or crew training. 
  • Accurately calculates and records field data. Reviews job specifications and plans field work methods and costs.  
  • Must be competent in the knowledge of/and able to perform the following: analyze survey control— GPS and conventional; preparation of ALTA surveys; assume duties of Survey Manager in his/her absence; ensure the accurate and complete preparation of, and sign: Tentative Map, Parcel Map, Final Map, Record of Survey, ALTA, Maps, Plats, and Legal Descriptions.  
  • Provide training for field and office personnel.   
  • Works closely with project surveyors.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  
  • Involved in outreach activities with community service organizations
  • CSM activities for specifically targeted clients
  • Member of Professional Surveyor Organization

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversees survey crew

 

Work Environment

  • Mix of indoor and outdoor, majority outdoor

 

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, walking, ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

 

Travel Required

  • The travel expectation for this role will be up to 90%.

Required Education and Experience

Requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity

  • 4 years previous experience performing design project surveys, locating section corners, topographic surveys, boundary surveying, and construction staking
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent minimum   
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured 
  • Proficient with GPS and Total Station survey equipment

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Preferences that are job-related and consistent with business necessity

  • 4-6 years previous experience
  • CADD experience desirable
  • Associates Degree or equivalent preferred
  • Surveyor in Training (SIT) or approval of a Senior Manager
