Body Shop Technician (Full-Time)

 

Job Title: Body Shop Technician

Schedule: 7:30-5:30, Monday-Friday

 

SUMMARY Responsible for all work assigned by the Body Shop Manager or Foreman, economic use of materials and supplies and maintenance/care of equipment and supplies.

 

Job Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 Performs repair work on and replacement of interior vehicle components (frame assemblies, floorboards, floor coverings, upholstery).

 Performs repair work on vehicle bodies (replacing front-end components, body components, doors, frame under body components; hammering out dents, buckles, and other defects using blocks and hammers; filing, grinding, and sanding repaired body surfaces; filling holes, dents and seams; removing damaged fenders, panels and grills; welding replacement parts in place).

 Removes damaged fenders, panels, and grilles using wrenches and cutting torch.

 Bolts or welds replacement parts in position using wrenches or welding equipment.

 Files, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.

 Refinishes repaired surface using paint spray gun and sander.

 Paints surfaces after performing body repairs.

 Hand sprays parts to cover unpainted areas or applies rust preventative.

 Mix paint according to the specifications, using viscometer to regulate consistency according to changes in atmospheric conditions.

 Cleans and refurbishes new and used automobiles. Conforms to dealership and/or manufacturer specifications and time allowances.

 Must be able to drive automatic and manual transmission vehicles.

 Washes vehicle exterior, cleans interior and exterior windows, and wipes down doorjambs.

 Vacuums interior of vehicles to remove loose dirt and debris.

 Cleans upholstery, rugs, and other surfaces, using appropriate cleaning agents, applicators, and cleaning devices.

 Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.

 Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to cleaning fluids, paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.

 Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.

 Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.

 Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.

 Follows established organizational procedures and safety rules.

 Maintains a professional appearance.

 Maintains a neat work area.

Working Conditions

The work environment is typical of a shop environment; working indoors and outdoors and exposed to all weather conditions. This includes exposure to chemicals and exposure to sounds and noise that are distracting and exposure to dust, exhaust fumes, paint and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

 

Duties are performed in a close physical proximity to other people.

 

It is physically demanding; standing required 6-8 hours per shift and required to lift parts weighing up to 70 pounds.

 

Equipment & Machines Used

Includes but not limited to body shop tools and equipment. Hand and power tools, welder, cutting torch, paint sprayer.

 

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Body Shop Foreman and Body Shop Manager.

 

Qualifications

Job Knowledge/Skills Required

 Knowledge to perform all types of auto body repairs proficiently.

 Valid drivers license.
