Develop, coordinate and deliver classroom and hands-on training related to safety procedures, environmental procedures, operating procedures, engineering standards, operating instructions, pipeline equipment, emergency response, and other pipeline technician training.
Support field operations training as a subject-matter expert for pipeline technicians and work with a multi-function team to ensure integration with ancillary work groups that interact with pipeline technician personnel.
Oversee development and implementation of pipeline technician evaluations. Ensure consistent processes and procedures are in place and are the basis of qualification.
Coach, develop, mentor, lead, and motivate pipeline technician trainees to achieve optimum performance and comply with all company policies and procedures.
Proactively identify issues and implement problem solving strategies with pipeline technician trainees, peers and management.
Maintain effective business relationships with field teams.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The pipeline technician trainer is responsible for oversight, development and delivery of instructional activities associated with field operations in accordance with Department of Labor, Department of Transportation and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements. The pipeline technician trainer is also responsible for ensuring pipeline technician training complies with company policies, standards and procedures; meets operator qualification (OQ) requirements; observes local, state and federal regulations; conforms to company safety rules and practices; and documentation is accurate, consistent and meets retention criteria.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, education, instructional design, or engineering. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)
Expert knowledge and six or more years of gas pipeline operations experience or similar field qualifications.
Three or more years of technical training, mentoring and/or supervising experience.
Knowledge of gas pipeline facility operation/maintenance equipment and procedures.
Qualification in a specific skill preferred (controls, measurement, corrosion/field, mechanic, LNG operations, reservoir storage, operations, welding, equipment operations, well service, environmental).
Effective oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to deliver presentations and training to large groups.
Effective analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of information technology functions, terms and equipment. General office computer skills, including competency with spreadsheets, word processors and presentation tools.
High degree of individual initiative to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner. Excellent attention to detail to ensure that work product is of high quality.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Effective interpersonal and leadership abilities with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex information accurately and understandably.
