Immanuel is seeking a VP of Information Technology to work at our corporate office in Omaha, Nebraska.

The overall purpose of this job is to provide technology vision and leadership for developing and implementing innovative information technology initiatives. The primary responsibilities of this job include establishing enterprise architecture, comprehensive standards and process discipline, and developing application software and systems administration roadmaps. This includes providing the leadership with information to better leverage advanced solutions while improving end user satisfaction and efficiency through advanced hardware and software technologies. Supports and lives out Immanuel's Mission and CHRIST Promises.

Key Areas

Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job


  • Develop short-, mid- and long-term strategies and business plans for Immanuel's technical infrastructure and application architecture that align with Immanuel's operational vision and strategy. The plans shall include architectural standards and protocols for data exchange, communications, and software development and configuration; resident, participant and subscriber focused solutions; and the integration of information systems.
  • Ensure strategies and plans are communicated to and approved by senior management and that they are executed effectively.
  • Assess existing efforts, initiatives and successes in working to enhance electronic medical records, developing a plan to support the provision of informatics services and execute clinical information strategy.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of system and business recovery plans to ensure timely and effective restoration of data and IT services in the event of a disaster.
  • Communicate to business leaders the plans for continued standardization efforts of information technology (IT) across the organization and identify future needs.


  • Ensure alignment of application architecture and technical infrastructure of Immanuel information systems in relation to Immanuel's vision and direction.
  • Develop a service level organization that establishes service standards for corporate office and each community/center.
  • Ensure that information systems operate according to internal standards, external accrediting agency standards and legal compliance requirements.
  • Provide advice and counsel concerning IT full life cycle issues and industry trends.


  • Management responsibility for all IT activity as it relates to the overall organization.
  • Establish and maintain a service orientated, customer focused IT function that supports ongoing operations that drive efficiency, quality, customer service and growth.
  • Develop specific technology areas including IT networking and systems administration, data warehouse technology, both informatics and non-clinical application software, business intelligence, web app development, systems integration and configurations, compliance and health information exchange considerations, disaster recovery, resident/participant safety and security systems.
  • Serve as the organization's information security officer and guide development of an information security discipline.
  • Identify and implement formal training and education plans as needed throughout IT and customer areas.
  • Provide leadership for all human resource activities across the department including hiring and separation, completion of performance evaluations, coaching and counseling, wage and salary administration, employee orientation and training, and development of education plans.


  • Oversee the negotiation of all IT contracts.
  • Develop and maintain the annual IT Department budget and oversee the fiscal administration and integrity of capital equipment, monthly account management and reports.


  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or related area is required.
  • A Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for education requirement.


  • Ten (10) years progressive IT experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in IT systems and management at a senior level with a sequence of increasing responsibilities in large and diverse business settings or related experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of strategic and business planning methods, tools and processes.
  • Advanced working knowledge and ability to direct a variety of platforms and system deployment in a heterogeneous environment with a clear vision of how to use information technology to improve productivity, performance and delivery of service throughout the organization.
  • Familiarity with senior care or health care related organizations is preferred.
  • Equivalent education may be substituted for experience requirement.

Other Requirements

  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Citrix or related areas preferred.

KSA- Knowledge Skills and Abilities-

  • Knowledge of and a track record of successful large project implementations.
  • Knowledge of budget and finance, organizational, time management, and business practices.
  • Skills in project management and vendor relation skills.
  • Skilled at needs assessment, facilitation of project implementation and organizational change or development.
  • Strong technical skills in the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and support of multi-vendor, computing environments.
  • Staff development, team building and coaching experience.
  • Must have a high level of judgment, decision-making, discretion and integrity.
  • Ability to work effectively with other Executives to achieve key business and technology goals.
  • Ability to analyze complex technology problems and develop recommendations and solutions that are understood in business terms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, verbally and in front of groups.
  • Maintains awareness of existing and emerging technologies, regulatory issues, and market factors
