Overview

 

This position contributes to the Mission and Vision of Immanuel by serving as the clinical leader for delivery of nursing services with oversight of the day to day activities of clinical operations, resident care and team members working together in long term and skilled care. Provides management support to plan, organize and lead resources with assigned team members; as well as functioning as an individual contributor within the community. Participates in operationalizing Immanuel strategic initiatives and priorities.  Serves as a role model for ethical management behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles. Supports and lives out Immanuel's Mission and CHRIST Promises.

Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

Operations & Services

  • Oversees the coordination and delivery of nursing services, and the monitoring and evaluation of outcomes of nursing care.
  • Develops, maintains and promotes policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, Immanuel philosophy of care and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Promotes process improvements concerning quality, safety, risk management and resident care including action plans to address trends and variances.
  • Coordinates nursing services with the interdisciplinary team and contracted providers.
  • Oversees nursing staffing and scheduling in collaboration with leadership team to assure that resident needs, regulations and budget standards are met.
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel and assures sufficient staff is hired.
  • Promotes customer service and responds to adequately resolve complaints or concerns from residents, families or others.
  • Participates in defining strategic priorities, achieving goals contributes to planning for use of physical, human and capital budget resources.
  • Provides feedback to the leadership team on day-to-day operations activities and patient, family and staff satisfaction.
  • Monitors incidents and complaints with follow up to assure quality care and communications with residents and families.
  • Develops the budget for the nursing department, monitors and responds to a full range of financial indicators in all areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in the competency process for all nursing staff by maintaining incumbent's clinical competence.
  • Develops and maintains an information management system to facilitate management of the nursing team.
  • Assures availability of policy and procedure system, which complies with current nursing standards of practice.

Staff Management/ Training & Guidance

  • Appropriately delegates clinical procedures in accordance with policies. Supervises/monitors skilled care provided as care dictates.
  • Develops and promotes an environment which delivers high quality, holistic nursing care based on identified needs.
  • Oversees and supervises development and delivery of orientation, competence assessment and staff development to prepare nursing staff with knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, quality care and respect for resident rights.
  • Manages staff performance including: goal setting, clarifying job expectations, monitoring performance and providing feedback, addressing performance issues and use corrective action.
  • Assists in recruiting, screening, training, coaching and counseling and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Works with team to develop a true continuum of care and best practices for residents.

Compliance & Performance Standards

 

  • Monitors outcomes/measures and participates in the Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI), safety, security and infection control programs.
  • Participates in survey process with the Executive Director to include regulatory compliance, community readiness and staff preparation.
  • Provides leadership in the survey process, Plan of Correction response and implements follow up required for clinical deficiencies.
  • Demonstrates work practices consistent with Immanuel policies.
  • Complies with all internal and external regulations, policies and procedures. Leads efforts for continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintains a system of reporting that provides timely and relevant information on all aspects of care.
  • Maintains professional affiliations and any required certifications.

Qualifications

 

Education-

  • Completion of a Registered Nurse program in an accredited institution required.
  • Must hold current license as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or Iowa, Nebraska and Iowa are Compact States so the license must be held in the state of residence.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.
  • Bachelors degree in nursing is preferred with a specialization in gerontology.
  • Gerontological Nurse Certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center is preferred.
  • Assisted Living Administrator registry in the respective state in which he/she is employed is required when work responsibilities include serving as the RN Consultant for not more than 8 hours/week; or willingness to obtain within the first year.

Experience-

  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience as a Registered Nurse in a Skilled Nursing center and/or medical/surgical setting preferred.
  • One (1) year of management experience in health care environment is preferred.
