Systems Engineer - Full Time (Days) - Immanuel Home Office
Purpose of the Job
Responsible for maintaining Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to ensure reliability and optimization for the organization. Responsibilities include systems design, implementation, solution research and troubleshooting of complex issues primarily within the context of Citrix/VMware environments. The Systems Engineer will work with management by providing technical leadership for strategic projects and initiatives on the Citrix roadmap as well as participating in more general server, storage and desktop architecture efforts. Furthermore, the Systems Engineer will collaborate with Security Engineers in support of best practices for server building, application packaging and deployment, user experience management, security, change management, user account management and documentation. Supports and lives out Immanuel’s Mission and CHRIST Promises.
Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job
Manage day-to-day operations in a highly available 24x7x365 multi-data center environment.
Production Operations - Private Cloud (VMWare, Cisco UCS compute, NetApp SAN\NAS).
Manage enterprise wireless controllers and access points.
Responsible for daily infrastructure maintenance and management of network resources including servers, storage, virtualization.
SME with Windows Active Directory and Group policy objects
Assist manager to complete tasks and projects as assigned.
Assist in design and optimization of Active Directory including GPO’s.
Manages medium scale projects from conception to completion including project timelines.
Demonstrate expertise in monitoring the VDI environment and optimizing system performance understanding that the VDI platform.
Demonstrate expertise in installing and configuring applications for optimal performance in VDI server environments.
Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing. Optimize VDI server creation and management to ensure quick recovery and flexibility in disaster scenarios.
Adhere to current and assist management with new Infrastructure policies and procedures.
Maintain run book and change logs.
Improve enterprise systems availability by providing ongoing preventive maintenance, testing, tuning and troubleshooting.
Monitor current workloads and trends for capacity planning.
Monitor system dashboards for proactive remediation.
Boost systems performance by leveraging best practice standards.
Tier 3 troubleshooting of server and storage infrastructure.
Follow-up with end users to ensure problem resolution and satisfaction.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Management Information Systems or related field is required.
Equivalent years of experience may substitute for education requirement.
Three (3) years of systems administration experience is required.
Experience with Aruba Wireless network management and deployment desired.
Storage experience with Netapp Nas\San arrays in clustered mode desired.
Experience with the following technologies is desired: Citrix XenApp, Citrix Netscaler, Citrix Storefront/Web interface, Citrix Studio, Citrix policy management.
Experience configuring and supporting converged blade center is required; Cisco UCS Blade center is desired.
Experience configuring and supporting virtualization platform is required; Vmware vCenter is desired.
Fundamental understanding of Cisco route and switch is desired.
Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.
Other Requirements –
Certifications in VMWare, Netapp, Cisco or Microsoft are a plus.
KSA- Knowledge Skills and Abilities-
Knowledge of Active Directory in a Windows 2008 and 2012 domain.
Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in the networking field including, core routing and switching in open and converged systems.
Ability to work well within a team environment and provide mentoring to less experienced engineers.
Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and vendors.
Ability to quickly learn new IT tools and technologies.
Skills in identifying problems or issues, thinking of alternatives for solution, and being part of the solution.
