Designs, oversees, and implements the Junior ROTC curriculum and master training schedules.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Coordinates and manages Junior ROTC curriculum and schedules; provides functional and technical supervision of administrative and logistical operations.

  • Liaises between the school and the Department of Defense on matters pertaining to the program.

  • Develops and implements both group and individual lesson plans for daily, quarter, semester, and year-long periods planning instructional experiences for students in accordance with established curriculum.

  • Directs and coordinates school field trips, summer camp, and competitive events.

  • Directs and supervises the public relations program, the public information program, and the release of news articles.

  • Monitors performance of assigned personnel in accordance with departmental guidelines.

  • Teaches classes in citizenship, leadership, drill, command, and other ROTC-related classes; assigns and grades class work and homework; prepares, administers, and grades tests.

  • Organizes and coaches drill teams, courtesy patrols, color guard, and other appropriate extracurricular groups; supports school-related extracurricular activities.

  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by laws, policies, and regulations.

  • Establishes and implements behavioral protocols; observes and evaluates student behavior, performance, social development, and physical health.

  • Maintains positive professional communications with parents, guardians, administration, and colleagues regarding progress and concerns.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of state policies, statutes, and procedures on education and regulations of Nebraska.

  • Ability to deliver instruction in an effective and efficient manner and to modify or adapt general education curriculum.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of professional competence via in-service education, self-selected professional education, and curriculum development.

  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the use of a behavioral approach to motivate student learning.

  • Ability to demonstrate concern and respect for individual students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Retired U.S. Army with previous ROTC experience with a successful record of program development and management of logistics and resources required.

  • Designated as a Senior Army Instructor and certified by U.S. Army Cadet Command required.
