Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation into care provided to patients as assigned. Focuses on developing a professional skillset in a specialized area of care and builds upon the incumbents patient experience to advance within the Boys Town healthcare system.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Under the supervision of an experienced nurse, utilizes the nursing process to complete the admission physical, cognitive, spiritual, psychosocial, and functional patient assessment.
Implement a peer reviewed plan of care, that is reviewed and revised on an ongoing basis.
As assigned, review with patients the discharge plan and implement the process upon the completion of the patients stay.
Under supervision, performs point-of-care lab testing as per established policies and procedures.
Reports accurate, detailed hand-off communication regarding the patient's condition, care, treatment, medications, services, and any recent or anticipated changes to any of these when patient care is transferred from one healthcare team or team member to another.
Completes an extended training (with a preceptor) and orientation process, as assigned by the supervisory team.
Focuses on learning the area of specialty and develops more advanced skillsets through 1:1 training, interactions, and experience in the assigned department.
Promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient.
Complies with all applicable state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, and BTNRH policies and procedures.
Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to demonstrate clinical competence in providing safe, quality direct patient care.
Ability to communicate with patients, families, and staff, as well as collaborate with other members of the health care team to enhance care.
Possesses functioning knowledge of the use and maintenance of a wide variety of critical care equipment and supplies.
Ability to complete patient documentation in a thorough, concise, accurate, and timely manner.
Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergencies and stressful situations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A registered nurse who is a graduate of an accredited school with a current state license required.
Previous nursing experience required.
CPR (BLS) certified within six months of transfer or hire required.
ACLS certified within six months of transfer or hire required.
PALS certified within six months of transfer or hire required.
Prior working knowledge of using computer programs and electronic medical records required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in nursing preferred.
Acute hospital nursing experience preferred.
