Camp Lifeguard - Okoboji Camp

The Camp Lifeguard role organizes and monitors the use, and safety, of water recreational activities at the Boys Town Camp.

Summer Boys Town Camp Okoboji Lifeguard, supervises all water recreational activities, warns swimmers of improper activities or danger, and enforces water policies. Prepares indoor and outdoor facilities, minor housekeeping.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

  • Organizes, monitors, and promotes water recreational activities.
  • Organizes recreational activities and keeps all equipment ready for use. Makes minor repairs on equipment, and reports equipment damage to the Camp Director.
  • Manages recreational activities during camp schedule, such as swimming, boating, tubing, water basketball and volleyball, kayaking and other recreational activities.
  • Monitors the safety of all equipment, youth, and employees during all recreational activities.
  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the yard and interior of camp.
  • Provides basic First Aid as needed
  • Directs all activities towards the fulfillment of the Boys Town mission
  • Directs all actions to reflect the values and principles of Boys Town
  • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and ethical behavior
  • Maintains regular, reliable and predictable attendance
  • Supports other members of the management team and their work
  • Minor housekeeping such as but not limited to: change linens and sanitize rooms after camp sessions.

Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization

Program Dates:

  • Mandatory training will take place in Omaha, Nebraska starting May 22, 2023
  • Preparation and Training (Camp Okoboji) from May 25-31, 2023 (Off for Memorial Day Weekend)
  • Live and work in Okoboji, Iowa from June 1 August 7, 2023

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong swimming skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 19 years old
  • Willing to become certified in: Basic Rescue, Emergency Water Safety Life Guarding
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Clean background check and drug screen


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES, AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:

First Aid Certification, Lifeguard Certification, and CPR Certification; Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred but will train and certify.
