The Manager of Workforce Development provides oversight of program operations, staff, and services to participant including skill development, career exploration, employability and certification training, job placement and support to high school seniors in preparing for post-graduation options and successfully transitioning to independence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
- Establishes and maintains the Workforce Development program with the goal of providing participants with the education and support necessary to make strong, suitable post-graduation decisions.
- Collaborates with community stakeholders and consumers to develop and design programs to assist participants in transitioning to the workforce.
- Builds and maintains relationships with employers to ensure quality of the program and a positive experience for participants.
- Seeks out and estabilishes new partnerships in the community.
- Coordinates partnerships with educational institutions.
- Provides career exploration opportunities by exposing participant to non-degreed careers and enrolling them in individualized certifications and vocational programs.
- Provides training via workshops and one on one conversations regarding soft skills training, unique coping skills training, and workforce readiness training. Coordinates and secures presenters for Workshops.
- Ensures participants are matched with job shadowing, internship, and job placements, and other resources. Coordinates career fairs.
- Responsible for continuous development, implementation and marketing of the program and activities.
- Responsible for the new creation of the program by serving on task forces and relevant workforce development committees within the community.
- Manages the program budget including developing budget proposals, justifying expenses, and monitoring expenditures.
- Processes intake and enrollment of participant in the Workforce Development program.
- Coaches, supports and advocates for participant.
- Engages participant in motivating activities and offering stipends to incentivize ongoing participation through completion of the program and job retention.
- Hires, trains, and evaluates staff.
- Establishes and oversees the fundamental operations of the Workforce Development program.
- Develops and implements strategies to acquire business sites for student placement, to promote successful student performance, and to maintain positive relationships with the business community.
- Determines appropriate job settings suitable for student interests, aptitudes, and skill levels to provide safe environments for students, to promote student success and to accommodate business interest while maintaining positive school system and business relationships.
- Determines intervention strategies necessary to improve student performance in community work settings to facilitate successful completion of high school diploma requirements.
- Develops post-placement plans with participants to help them succeed at the worksite through regular visits, frequent phone contact, and coordination of staff and services to intervene when needed.
- Meets with contacts at various locations; utilizes own vehicle and Boys Town vehicle to travel to work destinations and to transport participant as authorized.
- Serves as a role model in carrying out the Father Flanagans Boys Home mission.
- Directs all activities towards the fulfillment of the Boys Town mission
- Directs all actions to reflect the values and principles of Boys Town
- Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and ethical behavior
- Maintains regular, reliable and predictable attendance
- Supports other members of the management team and their work

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of a variety of behaviors and circumstances that may impact one's performance in various work environments.
- Working knowledge of state and federal child labor laws and worker permit regulations.
- Knowledge of work demands and work ethics across a variety of business settings.
- Organizational skills to independently manage participant in school to work experiences.
- Analytical skills to interpret student assessment results, behavior, work capabilities, and potential to be successful in post-secondary education.
- Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality; communication skills needed to relate effectively to students, family teachers, faculty, administrators, and business owners and their employees.
- Knowledge of the post-secondary opportunities available to students with interest and demonstrated success in the Career Readiness Center programs; understanding of the post-secondary education application process and the process to receive post-secondary financial aid.
- Ability to design and conduct evaluation activities regarding child behavior problems.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.
- Knowledge of the Boys Town Model and of the Family Home Program.
- Ability to successfully lead a team of associates.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school; Master's degree preferred.
- 5 years of experience in program or project management.
- Must possess a valid drivers license with a good driving record and pass an annual MVR, plus provide own transportation (mileage reimbursed) to complete travel requirements of the job. Must meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local laws.
- This position must be available to provide crisis response and must be available to work non-traditional business hours including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Extended periods of time in a classroom environment or at a keyboard, workstation, or desk; reasonably expected to have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow employees, participant, or families.
Work is in a normal educational school administrative or classroom environment and will also be performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and potentially aggressive (physical interventions, escorts, etc.) to casual and leisurely, in both indoor and outdoor settings and may be subject to outside weather conditions occasionally. Includes constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and the potential for verbal and physical threats from participant.
