Communications Assistant (Federal Work Study)

Primary Responsibility:

This position participates in and assists with the ongoing internal and external Strategic Communications activities. Using effective communication and interpersonal skills, this position provides high-quality customer service to BU alumni, faculty and staff as well as external partners, vendors, and media contacts.  This position actively participates in content development, social media, and blogging as well as internal and external communications. This position also provides general administrative support for the department.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible and accountable for providing assistance with the ongoing internal and external Strategic Communications activities.
  • Complete Strategic Communications project work as assigned (for example research, data entry, content contributions).
  • Respond to emails, attend meetings, provide project updates as needed
  • Assist with community, advancement, graduation and public relations events as needed.
  • Assist with content calendar and content gathering.
  • Compile data as requested.
  • Maintain a strict level of confidentiality in the handling of student, alumni and board information.
  • Work with team to complete tasks.
  • Build positive relationships with and provide high quality customer service to staff, as well as students, alumni and partners.
  • Effectively learn and use technology including, MS Office, Wordpress, Salesforce, E-Mail Software, Photoshop, and Snagit.
  • Create and publish content to The Buzz (Internal Communications Website), the newsroom and other communication channels.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested.

 

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BU student in good standing and must be eligible to participate in the University’s Federal Work Study financial aid program.
  • Experience in customer service, administrative support, human resources or related field preferred. 
  • Selected candidate must be detail-oriented with excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills along with a strong customer service orientation. 
  • Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel required, PowerPoint and/or Access preferred. 
  • Dependability can be assessed through regular attendance and meeting established business schedule requirements. 
  • This position requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of student files and information, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
