Supreme Court of Nevada

The Nevada Supreme Court is the state’s highest court and ultimate judicial authority. It is Nevada’s only appellate court. The primary job is to rule on appeals from the trial courts, but the Supreme Court is also the administrative head of the Nevada legal system. During recent years, the leadership of the seven justices has resulted in dynamic programs and technical innovations along with improvements in case processing that has made Nevada a national leader. The Supreme Court, together with the District, Justice, and Municipal Courts, form the Judicial Branch of Government, as equal and independent as the Executive and Legislative Branches. Nevada has been one of the nation’s fastest growing states for decades and the Judiciary has been working to meet those demands with dedicated staffs and innovative programs like the Foreclosure Mediation Program, which has become a national model. With that demand come unique employment opportunities. The Supreme Court employs approximately 150 people in many different job classifications. Court positions can be legal, information technology, finance, human resources, management, law library, and general clerical among others. The home of the Supreme Court is in the state capital of Carson City, between the Capitol Building to the north and the Nevada Legislature to the south. The Supreme Court, additionally, has established a southern home in populous Clark County atop the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas. Divisions of the Supreme Court include the Clerk of the Court, Central Legal Staff, Law Library, and the Administrative Office of the Courts.
