In 1990, at 16th and South Streets in Lincoln , Nebraska , Brewsky’s Food & Spirits was born. Two brothers, Jim and Jon Mumgaard, partnered with friend Brian Kitten with a vision of a neighborhood watering hole complete with multiple TV’s for sports viewing. The bar and the concept was an immediate success. As time went on, in listening to the needs and wants of its customers, it was decided a food menu needed to be added to the concept. In keeping with their initial visions, this was not a task to be taken lightly.
In 1992 a search was initiated to find the person or persons who could help the owners create a menu that wouldn’t be standard bar fare, but a step above. Chef Ed was deemed that person. Hired in 1992, Chef Ed Janousek quickly established his talents with his first menu. After several years of furthering his education, Chef Ed became a nationally Certified Executive Chef in 1997, one of just a few in Nebraska. The American Culinary Federation- Professional Chefs and Apprentices of Nebraska selected Chef Ed the "Chef of the Year" in 1998 and 2001. Chef Ed is with Brewsky’s to this day, and his award winning menu continues to grow and improve.
Also in 1992, Brewsky’s decided to make the move to add to and update its sports viewing packages, satellite systems, and more advanced cable television systems, to better serve our growing clientele. Brewsky’s has kept to their commitment to always remain a step ahead of the competition in technology services and sports programming, expanding from the old "big dish", to Direct TV, and Webcasting technology.
Brewsky’s growth started in 1994 with their second Lincoln location at 27th and Cornhusker, and added a third Lincoln location at 70th and Van Dorn in 1999. Brewsky’s first location outside of Lincoln was opened in 2001 at 156th and Q Streets in Omaha, Nebraska. A fifth Brewsky’s was opened in Lincoln’s historic Haymarket district in 2003.
Brewsky’s to this day continues to look for new and better ways of providing its customers with the best possible sports viewing and programming, as well as a menu any fine dining establishment would be proud to serve. The owners of Brewsky’s plan on expanding in Omaha, Nebraska immediately, and beyond the borders of Nebraska in the very near future. Always holding to the Mission Statement of JJ Kat, Inc.:
