Navigating the complexities of flood insurance

Flood insurance is essential to helping protect the security of your home from the unpredictable consequences of flood, but NFS recognizes how intimidating flood insurance may seem.

NFS provides an educational, interactive experience to help customers understand their flood risk, and how they can help protect their homes through a flood insurance policy.

Five facts everyone should know about flood insurance:

  1. Everybody lives in a flood zone, but what matters is the level of risk within your particular flood zone. Check out your flood risk.
  2. Standard homeowners’ insurance policies exclude flood damage. Flood insurance must be purchased separately through your insurance company and/or agent. Get a quote through your insurance company.
  3. Flood is unpredictable.
  4. There is a 30-day waiting period for flood coverage to take effect, so don’t wait until a storm or catastrophicevent occurs to purchase coverage.
  5. Many homes in America may be insured against a flood event for about $1/day.

Flood insurance can seem complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. NFS will work closely with you through each step of the process.
