The Nebraska/Iowa chapter of the Project Management Institute is offering a new, in-depth training opportunity.

The Agile Project Management course is a 12-week program that will prepare participants for the PMI-ACP® examination.

Matt Kirilov, with the PMI Heartland chapter, is the lead coordinator of the course, and says the pilot program will be a one-of-its-kind experience.

“No other course to my knowledge packs such a powerful punch worldwide, and yet we have this right here in Omaha,” he says.

Each week will feature a guest lecturer who will guide participants through exam prep software and videos, and talk about the latest trends in Agile project management.

“No other course features 12 different top-level Agile coaches guest lecturing in 12 weeks,” Kirilov says.

The goal is to provide a hands-on, interactive learning experience.

“For example, if a concept can be better illustrated by a demonstration, activity, or a peer’s example, we would go that route instead of putting everybody to sleep with slides,” he says.

Course takers will end up taking a three-hour, 120-question online practice exam, and class time will count as formal education time. Participants will receive a certificate confirming the number of hours participated.

“The PMI-ACP exam is a situational exam where a successful completion is dependent on both knowledge of Agile practices, values, and principles, and experience in applying the latter,” Kirilov says “This course, the only one of its kind, is entirely geared towards teasing out the situational experience of the course takers, experts, and the facilitators.  The latter cannot be done by reading a book or by listening to a talking head that flips through slides.

The class will be held on Tuesday evenings from February 27 to May 15 at Metropolitan Community College’s Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology. The cost is $450.
