4 Ways to Make Your Online Recruiting More Effective

Recruiting is hard. Though there are a lot of people out there looking for jobs, as a recruiter, you’re looking for someone with very specific skills for whatever positions it is that you’re trying to fill.

And depending on the job opening that you’re trying to fill, filling the position could mean spending a lot of company money training someone for the job. That’s a big investment, and it’s absolutely essential to make sure that you have the right person.

Luckily, there’s no better time than now to be a recruiter. The power of the web means that you have a lot of tools at your disposal for finding the right person–but it’s also essential to make sure that you’re doing your recruiting right.

Here are 4 recommendations that we have for making your online recruiting more effective:

    1. Figure out where your target market hangs out. With the vast open space of the internet at everyone’s disposal, different markets have naturally gravitated towards different social networks. Research the different networks available (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.) and make a conscious effort to post about your job in the right places (see below). If the group of people you’re hoping to hire from hangs out on Twitter, you should focus on posting there, and the same with Facebook or any other network.

    1. Spread your job posting. Even the best online recruiting sites can be made more useful if you take the time to spread your job posting via social media. Create your centralized posting (here on AIM Careerlink, for example), then use networks like Twitter and Facebook to let people know you have an opening. Doing step number 1 first is very important, though.

    1. Don’t just let them come to you–go to them. In their search for the perfect candidate, many recruiters simply create a job posting and sit back. Although this sometimes works if you have time on your hands, if you’re in a rush, it certainly doesn’t hurt to find good candidates on your own. Though you can do this any number of ways (like number 1), here at AIM Careerlink, we offer a powerful resume searching tool so that you can seek out the best candidates without having to wait for them to come to you.

    1. Nail your value proposition. Though this comes naturally to many employers, some employers think that a basic, bare-bones description of the job they’re looking to fill is enough to attract the best talent around. The fact is, that’s just not the case. Getting the very best employees means nailing your value proposition. Think about what makes your company (and the job) stand out, and emphasize those points. Recruits want a good employer just as bad as you want a good employee, so make sure that what you say in your job description brings out your company’s best qualities.

Though the internet has made us more connected than ever (which is good for recruiting, in many cases), it’s also made it more necessary to really know what you’re doing in terms of posting a job and finding the right people. There’s a lot of noise to filter through–but if you can find the best ways to filter through it, you’re golden.

Here at AIM Careerlink, we offer many powerful recruiting tools to help you find the best people possible for the job. From resume searching, to unlimited job postings and user accounts (with a Basic Unlimited Subscription), we’re here to help you fill your job openings with the best talent around.
