Position is available in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology & Hepatology Section to examine how ethanol consumption alters protein catabolic systems in the liver to bring about liver injury. The successful applicant will conduct experiments to determine whether ethanol exposure affects proteasome activity and whether alterations in the activity of this enzyme are related to hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) and to the formation of intracellular protein aggregates. Research laboratory is located in the Liver Study Unit at the Omaha VA Medical Center. Recent PhD or MD/PhD in the biological or biomedical sciences. Some prior postdoctoral experience is preferred but not required.
