Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited program.
- Participates in mandatory inservices and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external guidelines and as directed by supervisor.
- Previous Medical Assistant/medical experience preferred.
- Category H - Heavy Work. Heavy lifting, above 50 pounds, constant body movement, either walking, stooping, or lifting: operation of heavy machinery (i.e. RN., Escort).
- Involves lifting no more than 100 pound at a time with frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine he/she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
Job Resposibilities
- Prepares exam rooms and equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients by setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies.
- Prepares patient for physician exam by reviewing medical records, weighing patient, checking vital signs, obtaining information relevant to patient needs and documenting all tests/procedures in charts.
- Assists physicians to facilitate patient treatment by retrieving tests and medical records and obtaining labwork as directed by doctor.
- Assists lab technologists to facilitate patient treatment by assisting with phlebotomies, handling of samples, requisitions, record keeping, analyzing specimens according to standard procedures and performing and documenting quality control activities.
- Dispenses medications at the direction of the physician to patient and instruct patients and family regarding medication and treatment.
- Performs telephone triage to determine patient needs by recording and reporting patient condition to physician and advising patient based on doctor instructions.
- Handles prescription renewals/inquiries to facilitate patient care by discussing pharmacy questions with physicians and relaying information to pharmacy.
- Maintains work areas to ensure healthy environmental conditions by cleaning and organizing equipment and rooms.
- At the direction of the physician, provides patient and family education regarding proper use of medication and health/illness prevention to ensure adequate knowledge/awareness and recommending appropriate community resources.
