Job Responsibilities

• Cleans and disinfects all reusable trays and equipment Standard-Processes equipment according to established procedures, and in a timely manner.
• Assembles packages, labels and prepares items for next use. Standard-Accurately assembles packages, labels and prepares them for next use; wraps and packages items so as to insure package integrity and sterility. Clearly labels packages contents, expiration date and initials.
• Cleans and disinfects.
• Loads sterilizer. Standard-Places items to allow for maximum steam penetration and prevent contamination by steam condensation.
• Logs and labels items and supplies. Standard-Itemizes each load and applies an accurate load control label to each item.
• Monitors the operation of sterilizer. Standard-Examines gauges and recording charts at beginning and conclusion of each cycle, to verify adequate sterilization cycle.
• Utilizes biological and chemical indicators. Standard-Inserts chemical indicators in each package to be sterilized. Performs a biological indicator test once a week and with each load containing implantable items. Performs a Bowie Dick test daily.
• Checks equipment in and out. Standard-Records accurately, when and where equipment is issued and when it is returned. Promptly notify Bio-Med Department of any malfunctioning equipment.
• Issues sterile trays and supplies. Standard-Ascertains that autoclave tape has turned and checks the package integrity as each sterile item is dispensed. Checks expiration dates of medications, disposable procedure trays and other supplies as applicable.

Job Requirements:

• Completion of High School or Equivalent
• Certificate or licensure: Central Service Technician certificate preferred.
