Position Description

 

Methodist Women’s Hospital
The new home for women’s health.
 
Methodist Women’s Hospital is the first hospital in the region devoted exclusively to women’s health care.
 
Features:
  • The five-floor, 116-bed women’s hospital will be the first and only in the region dedicated to women’s health.
  • All patient rooms will be private with necessary equipment on hand but out of sight, and include family spaces with comfortable sleep sofas, seating for visitors and wireless Internet Access.
  • A Level III NICU, the highest level in west Omaha, will help alleviate the shortage of beds in the region for at-risk babies.
  • Patients will have 24/7 access to anesthesiologists who specialize in keeping moms comfortable throughout delivery.
  • A fully staffed newborn nursery will accommodate babies’ needs 24/7.
  • The new women’s hospital will provide a full range of gynecological services for women of all ages.
  • The Emergency Department (ED) will be open 24/7 and provide care for men and women and their families. The ED will include The Heidi Wilke SANE/SART Program – services that provide care for survivors of sexual assault.
  • A host of outpatient diagnostics will be offered for both men and women.
  • Methodist Women’s Hospital’s surgical suites will feature the latest in technologies for patient care, staff efficiencies and physician friendliness.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1.         Develops, coordinates and implements goals, objectives, plans and policies to achieve selected outcomes as established by the President, the Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Committee, state, federal, health care and other accrediting and regulatory bodies by allocating and managing resources appropriately.
 
2.         Oversees strategic direction of the campus operations to ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations by adhering to sound methods of financial planning and fiscal responsibility, responsible business and resource management practices and Hospital policies.
 
3.         Oversees accountability for the quality of care and customer satisfaction to improve quality, demonstrating Continuous Quality Improvement whenever applicable, to protect patients and to reduce Hospital risk by reviewing and acting upon complaints in cooperation with the COO and other designated Hospital personnel.
 
4.         Demonstrates collaborative leadership to ensure effective, efficient and high quality Hospital operations by:
·         understanding and committing to the Mission, Vision and Leadership Behaviors of the Hospital and modeling the core values 100% of the time;
·         effectively managing human resources, including choosing the most appropriate candidates for jobs, providing for adequate staffing levels and handling employee relations issues;
·         participating in continuing education, remaining current on any internal/external issues relating to the position;
·         encouraging and committing to employee development by completing performance appraisals or periodic reviews, by facilitating co-worker feedback and by establishing mentoring relationships as needed or requested by employees; and,
·         developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services within the process.
 
5.         Works collaboratively with the Medical Staff to maintain standards of medical care, by following guidelines established by the Medical Staff, the COO, the Operations Committee and other regulatory and accrediting bodies.
 
6.         Promotes an open-door policy and risk taking environment to ensure open, honest, effective communication among and between the leadership team, customers and all team members by modeling MBA (Management By Walking Around); soliciting feedback; acting upon the feedback; attending, facilitating, leading and participating in meetings at the department level. Rewards risk takers and encourages/allows staff members, at all levels, to be part of the decision making process.
 
7.         Serves as a representative, and encourages staff to do the same, to local and professional agencies and organizations to promote an excellent organizational reputation and image in the community and to meet social responsibility by actively participating in conferences, education services and other events.
 
8.         Oversees standards of medical care/operations to ensure accreditation by working collaboratively with advising leadership on clinical/operational aspects of accreditation and licensure; providing services within the scope of JCAHO and other accrediting/licensing bodies.
 
9.         Participates in the annual operating and capital budget preparation to ensure fiscal stability by facilitating the integration of clinical and operational services into the organization’s planning, budgeting and marketing processes, as observed and reviewed by supervisor.  Works with all departments to ensure budget compliance, appropriate capital budget expenditure review and on target labor usage. 
 
10.        Demonstrates support and commitment to assisting various other Health System entities to achieve their respective visions by remaining current on organizational issues those companies face, by considering them in decision-making and by allocating resources to them as necessary.
 
11.        Performs other duties as assigned.
 
 
Job Requirements:
1.         Knowledge of health care delivery, advanced management principles and basic accounting and finance normally acquired through bachelors degree in business administration, health care administration or a related field. Masters in a relevant field required. 
 
2.         Ten years of progressively more responsible experience, 5-6 years of which are in health care management.
 
3.         Advanced interpersonal relationship and customer service skills necessary to effectively communicate with staff, physicians, administrators, patients, visitors and vendors.
 
4.         Strong interpersonal skills to act as a problem definer, problem solver, and negotiator while working with complex variables, including multiple departments and procedures, diverse groups and sophisticated, integrated systems.
