Position Description
This position will be based in one of HDR's Texas office locations.
This person will serve as the overall leader for the Texas Federal, Energy, and Resource Management (FERM) Business Group which includes Federal, Energy, Waste Management, Natural Resource Management, Community Planning and Urban Design projects.
The FERM Business Group Manager is responsible for providing management and leadership for HDRs growing FERM business throughout the state of Texas. The Business Group Manager reports directly to the Texas Area Operations Manager, FERM Central Region Director and works closely with the FERM National Director. This person will conduct regular and frequent communication among offices and senior managers to promote ideas and specific actions, focusing on superior client service, project delivery, profitability, and staff development. Specific duties include: Strategic planning/Leadership Work with regional business group leadership to identify and incorporate National and Central Region vision within each Texas FERM office. Oversee the creation and implementation of strategic vision and direction for business group coordinating the visions of the different business classes and offices within the area. Understand regional and local market trends and drivers, and match clients needs with local staff to provide innovative solutions. Staff Management and Leadership: Provide direct, credible leadership for a diverse group of senior managers located in several offices throughout Texas. Promote communication and coordination among offices and staff, and with other business groups. Prevent formation of silos, barriers, or hurdles. Coordinate staff workload and facilitate work sharing between offices; promote effective use of company resources and assist in applying key staff/expertise to projects. Support the building of technical expertise/areas of expertise for business group and clients. Help coordinate staffing/recruiting plans and hires. Work with senior managers and company recruiter to fill needed business group hires in the area Participate in annual reviews of Business Class Area Managers, Section Managers, Program Managers, Senior Project Managers and Senior Engineers. Promote Business Operations: Monitor business group performance indicators NFE/NFB/profits/positive equity/AR. Work with offices to implement process improvements to keep indicators above targets. Coordinate marketing efforts with the Texas FERM Business Group Marketing Manager. Play a key role in marketing efforts critical to advancing the business plan and meeting client needs. Promote Quality Assurance; responsible for monitoring implementation of standards within business group to deliver high quality products for HDR clients Facilitate lessons learned regarding project delivery, processes, trends, successes, strengths, and stretches. Serve as PIC or PM for key clients and/or key pursuits.
BS/BA in Engineering or Environmental Studies; MS in Environmental Studies (or Engineering with Environmental emphasis) preferred. Professional certification/recognition (PE is preferred). 15+ years successful project management experience and management of large task order/delivery order type contracts. Experience in environmental based projects, marketing and knowledge of Texas market is desired. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
