Position Description
The primary duties of the Project Architect will perform layout and detailing on architectural projects. Will consult with clients to determine type, style and purpose of renovations or new building construction being considered. Responsible to conceptualize and design buildings and develop plans describing design specifications, building materials, costs and construction schedules. Will prepare sketches and models for clients and will prepare and/or supervise the preparation of drawings, specifications and other construction documents for use by contractors and tradespersons. Will also prepare and/or supervise preparation of bidding documents, participate in contract negotiations and award construction contracts. Is responsible for monitoring activities on construction sites to ensure compliance with specifications and to conduct feasibility studies and financial analyses of building projects. Assists in the development of architectural designs.

Analyze building codes, by-laws, space requirements, site requirements and other technical documents and reports.

Prepare manual and CAD (computer-assisted design) drawings, specifications, cost estimates and listings of quantities of material from conceptual drawings and instructions. Construct/coordinate architectural and display models/boards of architectural designs. Performs all other miscellaneous job functions as instructed.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited school of architecture and registration with the provincial association of architects in the province of Ontario as a fully pledged architect is required. Experience with supervision of drafters, technicians and technologists on the architectural team. Five (5) years of related architectural experience is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to interact effectively with clients, contractors and staff.
