Responsible for the investigation, evaluation, interpretation and payment/denial of Life and AD&D (or Life Waiver) claims with sound and impartial claim judgments and with guidance. Possess effective communication skills to interact with beneficiaries, policyholders, attorneys, physicians and brokers directly either orally or written. May act as a resource to our Legal department as it relates to compliance, legislative, legal and regulatory issues. Responsible for internal and external customer satisfaction in the resolution of claim-specific issues.
Essential Skills and Duties:
- Must be able to effectively explain claim situations with guidance
- Must be able to interpret contract wording/provisions/amendments
- Must be decisive and action oriented with claims direction.
- Must be able to interpret Medical Records
- Maintain turnaround time standards on all claims and follow ups
- Maintain required quality levels
- Complete benefit specialist training program and pass Proficiency Exam
- Must be able to problem solve/make decisions independently
- Successfully resolve internal/external customer's issues
- Understand ERISA language/California code

Education/Experience/Skills: (List minimum requirements)
· College degree or equivalent work experience is required.
· One to two years life or health insurance work experience is preferred.
· Able to read and correctly interpret a life contract is preferred.
· Strong knowledge of IBM software programs including but not limited to:
Word-processing Software
Spreadsheet Software
E-Mail
· Medical terminology is necessary.
· Completion of Group HIAA, LOMA, ICA and other industry courses are desirable.
· Strong math skills are necessary.
· Able to use logic, accuracy and strict attention to detail is necessary.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
· Regular and predictable attendance is required
