GENERAL SUMMARY:Serves as the practice leader/advocate for Department of
Anesthesia in order to accomplish organizational and departmental strategic
goals and
objectives. Coordinates services and provides leadership for designated area.
Supervisor of
Anesthesiology must be a license CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).
CRNA works
in collaboration with the anesthesia team and surgeon to provide anesthesia
care.
Supervises the day to day activities of the Department of anesthesia.
- Induces anesthesia under the direction of an anesthesiologist.
- Maintains anesthesia at prescribed levels.
- Monitors and supports life functions during the peri-operative period.
- Recognizes and reports to the anesthesia any abnormal patient responses during anesthesia.
- Assists anesthesia technicians in obtaining supplies to the anesthesia department, training and orientation.
- Participates in the program of continuous quality improvement.
- Assists Anesthesiologist in post-operative pain management.
- Assist Anesthesia Supervisor and Director of Anesthesiology with delegated tasks to help maintain equipment in the department.
- Provides professional feed back regarding anesthesia issues affecting pt care, department goals and the hospital vision to Anesthesia Supervisor or Director of Anesthesia.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Promotes professionalism through a team approach when interacting with colleagues, families, and personnel throughout the organization.
- Share/ teaches information to others in an attempt to provide clinical support to those in need.
- Participates in orientation / education of new employees
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must possess a current valid NE or compact state RN license and CRNA license. Certified in BLS and PALS.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Nurse Anesthetist preferred or equivalent experience normally acquired by working as a nurse anesthetist. 2 years exposure as a CRNA with a pediatric background.
