St. Luke United Methodist Church and Child Development Center have been serving the Omaha community since 1964.
AS A CHURCH...Mission statement: A Theologically Progressive Community, Committed to Worshipping, Learning, Serving and Caring
St. Luke is unique in its theology, facility development, and mission philosophy.
- Theology - The preaching and teaching at St. Luke aims at combining the best in critical biblical scholarship and contemporary knowledge. We attempt to simultaneously stimulate the heart and mind in worship and other congregational gatherings.
- Facility development - St. Luke built a gymnasium and child development center initially. This enabled the church to serve the social, family, and spiritual needs of the community from its beginning. Over the years, the facility has added space for worship, program, and administrative needs of the congregation and its outreach to the community.
- Mission philosophy and practice - St. Luke seeks to have a balance in mission to its immediate community, the greater Omaha area, and beyond. St. Luke has had a positive influence upon the formative years of life for thousands of children through our Child Development Center since 1964. The gymnasium serves as a gathering place for hundreds of children and adults for various athletic endeavors each week throughout the year. In cooperation with other not-for-profit organizations, we respond to the needs of the greater Omaha area. Through our United Methodist denominational connection, we respond to needs throughout the world each year.
We currently have 2 full-time Pastors on staff, with about 10 other persons on staff to cover the responsibilities of working with the youth and children, music ministries, office tasks, and building cleaning and upkeep.
Applicants for St. Luke United Methodist Church undergo an interview/screening process that includes: physical exam, drug screen, criminal background check, and checking references.
St. Luke United Methodist Church is located on 120th Street, one block south of Dodge. (We are across the street and east of Burke High School.) The Church Offices are located inside the west bell tower entrance (the tallest part of our building is the bell tower that faces 120th Street).
AS A CHILD CARE CENTER...St. Luke has a reputation of offering outstanding child care programs to Omaha families since 1964. St. Luke Child Development Center is a member of the Better Business Bureau. Child care classrooms are broken down into approximate six-month age groups to enhance age-appropriate activities. St. Luke Child Development Center is not a "Christian child care center," and we do not teach or emphasize religion. Instead we teach respect, self-confidence, and caring interaction with one another.
We currently have 1 full-time Director, 1 full-time Enrollment Director, 2 office staff, 1 cook, and about 55 teachers and caregivers. We care for over 200 children per day in our Center.
