A surgical technologist is an allied health professional who, under the supervision of the surgeon, helps to provide care to patients in the operating room. Possessing expertise in sterile and aseptic technique, knowledge of surgical procedures and human anatomy. The surgical technologist's role in the operating room is to pass instruments and suture, maintain a sterile field, ensure safety of patient and environment, and to assist the surgeon as needed.
Graduate from a Surgical Technology program. Associates degree preferred. Working knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, suture and equipment as well as surgical procedure and anatomy. Must have current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
