Recreation Therapy Assistant
Participates in defining IFH strategic priorities and in achieving goals and thus contributes to planning for use of physical, human and capital budget fiscal resources.
Provides ideas, comments and recommendations through established forums, suggestion box, team meetings, steering groups, leadership communications and in any opportunity for open dialogue.
Collaborates with Therapeutic Recreation Lead and Specialists to assure all programs are geared toward meeting the resident/patient individual needs.
Adapts programs to accommodate persons with special needs.
Maximizes resident/patient strengths in program development and identification of leisure interests.
Assesses the leisure interests and needs by using Recreation Therapy Assessments and other forms as deemed necessary.
Makes recommendations for goals and interventions relevant to residents special interests and needs including planned and spontaneous activities to reduce loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
Maintains documentation of resident performance, including participation sheets, progress notes and care plans.
Experience
Required:
A minimum of 6 month experience in a nursing facility or related setting.
Preferred:
Experience as a Recreation therapy or Activity Assistant within a nursing facility.
Interest/talent in music, crafts, pets.
Restorative care experience.
Education/Licensure
Required:
Current drivers license.
BLS or BLS instructor certification upon hire.
Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say Professional Level-with AED, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Preferred:
A CNA certification and/or completion of at least 6 courses in the field of recreation therapy.
High School diploma
Completion of Activity Assistant or Activity Coordinator Course.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Data entry skills.
Ability to motivate adult and geriatric residents experiencing significant losses.
