Job Summary: Overview: Join a 5 member Linux administration team responsible for managing a mixed Redhat Linux Enterprise network - 150 servers/workstations. Work on all aspects of administering a mission critical 24x7 Credit Card transaction network. Work closely with R&D and Q/A analysts. Responsibilities include traditional administration responsibilities to data warehousing, BCP environment testing and maintenance, and implementing best security practices.Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Network Operations Manager, you will be responsible for components of a high availability, high performance system consisting of many distributed processes, with a strong emphasis on design of systems from a security perspective. You keep abreast of new technology, hardware, operating systems, applications and tools.
You are able to integrate new technologies into existing environments. Experience in performance tuning and building / maintaining packages and RPMs are essential. The balance of the role will depend on your skills and system requirements, but may include work in any of: e-mail systems, network management, system administration or monitoring, database and information storage systems.Primary responsibilities: Administer Redhat ES3.x/ES5.x servers running in a 24x7 environment. Monitor, identify, and resolve production capacity, contention, and resource deficiencies. Configure and install new hardware AMD dual/quad-core, Intel quad-core. Basic Linux/Unix administration kickstart/jumpstart server builds, nfs, nis, shell scripting, performance tuning, proactive monitoring, patch management. Implement complex IP network software and hardware. Administer Linux to Windows connectivity using Samba. Support mySQL database system requirements. Maintain a worldwide network of servers in secure internet datacenters. Research, test, and implement new hardware and software.Company Technology Profile: Nagios network monitoring environment. Multiple Cisco and Checkpoint firewalls running in HA configurations. 10/100/Gig/10G Cisco Network architecture. Apache, Tomcat and secure SSL and SSH throughout the infrastructure.
Requirements of the Candidate: 8+ years of hands-on Unix experience supporting sophisticated mission critical environments. 2+ years of hand-on Linux experience supporting sophisticated mission critical environments.
Given the mission critical nature of our applications, you must work very well under pressure. University degree required. Exposure to Java, PHP and Perl required. Strong background knowledge of cryptographic protocols.
This is a Red Hat Linux administration position and not a Solaris admin crossover. Skills & Attributes: Extensive hands-on administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (version 3 minimum) Must have a solid understanding of TCP/IP networking protocols & services, network security and firewalls Must understand intricacies of analyzing and securing applications and systems; experience with SELinux an asset Must have experience with performance tuning of operating systems, applications, databases (MySQL, MaxDB) Must have a good working knowledge of encryption technologies Keeps abreast of new hardware, software, operating systems, applications and tools and can integrate new technology into the existing environment Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills, detail oriented Must understand how to compile/deploy applications and build RPMs Must have programming in perl and bash (other scripting and programming languages such as PHP, python, C, C++ an asset) Very good verbal and written communication skills Strong customer service orientation
