Position Description

 

Job Purpose:
To establish and provide appropriate tutoring for Building Bright Futures clients twice weekly during after school hours. Position is part time; typically ranging from 5-20 hours a week.          
     
Essential Job Duties:
   • Provide tutoring after school hours to assist teen parents in performing middle and high school work. 
   • Set up electronic equipment (e.g. netbook computers) and prepare the work area for tutoring sessions, as well as store equipment following the sessions. 
  • Work collaboratively with other educational and agency professionals.
   • Develop resources to provide supplemental materials for teaching or tutoring.
   • Demonstrate in daily activities the belief that people have the ability to grow and change.
   • Establish and maintain limits and helping role of practitioner, and intervene appropriately to address the needs of the persons served or other family members.
   • Effectively document information and records required by agency. Respect client confidentiality.
 
Other Duties:
   • Completes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
   • Facilitates a team atmosphere by working in partnership with other agency staff and promotes a positive working environment.
   • Represents the agency and programs in a positive manner to clients, community organizations and the public, in general.
   • Show flexibility with regard to work schedule (to be determined by supervisor); some evening or weekend work will be required.
 
 
 
Job Requirements:
   • College degree in education or related field with a minimum of 6 months experience in education or training preferred.  
   • Ability to interact with clients with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the service population.
   • Knowledge of tutoring or middle and/or high school classroom education.
   • Knowledge of childcare practices, developmental issues and group processes and practices, which are important to the position.
  • Personal characteristics and experiential background.
  • Necessary stamina and temperament to work with children and youth (13-19 years of age) who are experiencing crises and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills, including Excel, Word and Windows.
  • Vehicle that meets agency inspection, auto insurance that meets agency requirements and a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to communicate with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members.
  •  Patience and emotional stability.
  •  Non-judgmental, positive attitude.
  •  Flexibility, creativity, and dependability.
  •  Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
  •  Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.
  •  Ability to provide appropriate care and supervision of youth at all times.
