Unit Secretary
Hours: Everyother Saturday and Sunday, approx. 9:00am-1:00pm
Accurately transcribes and transmits physician's orders.
Maintains patient medical records and kardexes under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Understands and uses medical terminology in order completion and record maintenance.
Schedules patient tests/procedures in a proficient and timely manner.
Utilizes a computer to input data and retrieve information.
Answers the telephone in a prompt and courteous manner.
Sets priorities for response and communicates with the appropriate personnel, assuring confidentiality.
Answers patient intercom system in a prompt and courteous manner: sets priorites for response and communicates with the appropriate personnel assuring confidentiality.
Receives, greets, screens, and directs patients, physicians, visitors, and hospital personnel, and provides accurate responses in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner.
Notifies the appropriate nurse when a physician arrives on the unit.
Recognizes and responds to priorities in the patient care process; exercises good judgement in completing work duties; coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift; follows-up on matters requiring additional attention or reports exceptions to the appropriate person.
Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with co-workers to facilitate appropriate communications necessary for the delivery of quality patient care while assuring confidentiality of patient information.
Education/Licensure
Preferred:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Advanced secretarial training to include completion of a medical terminology course.
Experience
Required:
None.
Preferred:
One year of clerical work experience or related experience in a health care field and entry level computer experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Job requires knowledge of and ability to operate computer.
Job requires continuous reading skills, verbal communication skills and written communication skills.
